How are you feeling today? Just fine? That’s fine! Not so fine? That’s fine, too!We sometimes forget that all of our emotions are part of our sacred humanity. We tend to label feelings as either good or bad. Unity author Jim Rosemergy, in his book “The Sacred Human,” reminds us that feelings are neither good or bad – but they are important.Thoughts and feelings travel together to create our experience of the world, whether or not we are aware of them. Subtly resisting the so-called “bad” feelings doesn’t mean they cease to exist. They may be hidden from our conscious awareness, but they still influence our perspective and experience. This doesn’t mean we should get frozen in fear or stuck in sorrow. It does mean acknowledging and accepting what is true for us in the moment. Accepting what is allows the next thing to emerge. We all know that real tragedy exists in our world. We who are on the spiritual path are especially aware of this. So, when faced with a “lesser” trauma of our own, we may be tempted to tell ourselves to “get over it!” In fact, we need to get with it…be with it…in order to move through it.As Rosemergy says, “the path to healing is feeling.”And the more we heal, the more fully we are able to share our gifts with a world that needs them.So go ahead, let your heart break open. That’s how the light gets in!(The Sacred Human is free on Kindle, available at https://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Human-Jim-Rosemergy/dp/1419668277)
